ADD HELI-HIKING TO YOUR TRAVEL PLANS
eli-hiking: two words, one unbelievable experience. But what is heli-hiking, exactly? Read on to find out.

CMH Summer Adventures offers this special guided experience at three fly-in destination lodges in British Columbia, Canada. The trips are 3-6 days each and start from locations along spectacular driving routes such as the Columbia Icefields Parkway, Yoho National Park and Kootenay National Park.
This is a bucket-list addition to your travel plans.

Access and explore remote landscapes

A helicopter takes guests directly into British Columbia’s mountainous high country with endless alpine vistas extending to the horizon. These areas are otherwise inaccessible; there are no crowded trailheads here. It’s yours to enjoy.

Professional guides will lead you along ridgelines, through alpine meadows and to discover stunning viewpoints. These guides have a wealth of knowledge about mountain flora, fauna, geology and history—as well as stories from lifetimes lived in the mountains.

From dramatic glaciers to route-finding across open terrain framed by wildflowers, the experience of heli-hiking at CMH is defined by wonder, education and awe around every corner.
Here’s what your day might look like on a heli-hiking vacation:

What to expect

Join a morning stretch class first thing or choose to sleep a little longer. A hearty, chef-prepared breakfast is served at 8 am. The guides will match you to a hiking group based on your preferred pace and abilities. You can choose to hike quickly and cover a lot of ground or meander and take your time. Heli-hiking is a good fit for a range of fitness abilities.

After breakfast, you’ll fly from the lodge to a location that will blow your mind. You’ll be dropped off in an area that’s yours to explore and hike. Your guide will take the lead setting a comfortable pace, and you’ll roam among the mountains, taking photos and breathing in the big scenery. At lunchtime, you’ll break to enjoy a picnic.

The afternoon includes more exploring, more incredible views, more memories. During the day, the helicopter may move each group to a few different areas, giving you a chance to experience a variety of spectacular settings and terrain.

By late afternoon, you fly back to the lodge for a post-hike snack, drinks, hot tub time and a massage if you choose. A three-course dinner is served at 7 pm, but don’t feel like you have to dress up. This is backcountry luxury, where slippers are welcomed and story-swapping is encouraged. The rest of your evening can be spent chatting at the bar, playing in the games room, walking around the grounds or sinking into plush couches in the lounge.
