The town was named for Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy who fought in the Battle of Trafalgar. Archaeological studies indicate that the area was first settled 8000 years ago but the first white settlers didn’t arrive until the early 1900s.

Today Port Hardy welcomes visitors from around the world to paddle their rocky shores, hike the North Coast Trail or for the great fishing the area is known for.  Port Hardy is a place where you can step into nature and immerse yourself in the perfect wilderness adventure.
