Forestry, tourism and outdoor recreation are the mainstays of Clearwater's economy. White Water Rafting is a big attraction on the North Thompson River, with a number of companies offering both half and full day trips.
Easily accessible by RV, Wells Gray Park is home to Canada's fourth highest waterfall, Helmcken Falls, and also to four rivers, six major lakes and a further 38 more named waterfalls. Fall brings spectacular colours to Wells Gray Park with muted tones of reds, orange and yellow providing a picturesque contrast with the blue sky above.
The Clearwater River meanders through Bailey's Chute, where early September sees the arrival of salmon battling strong currents to return to their spawning grounds in Clearwater Lake.
