Known more as a winter playground, Fernie is the only city-class municipality in Canada that is fully encircled by the Rocky Mountains.

From December to April, Fernie’s year-round population of around 6000 people swells as avid skiers and snowboarders flock to Fernie Alpine Resort for some of the Kootenay Rockies' best ski terrain. Fernie welcomes Guests using an RV as their 'chalet on wheels' as they search for the best powder around - and Fernie has a lot of it. While those who choose to take ski vacations in an RV can't overnight on this ski hill, a year-round campground catering to lovers of winter is close by. RV ski vacations are gaining popularity and it's possible to rent an RV which enables you to use all facilities in temperatures as low as -30C.

Summertime in Fernie is just as popular, but still offers visitors opportunities for both relaxing and adventurous activities. This makes it an ideal place to include in your motorhome vacation plans. Downtown you’ll find one of only a handful of chocolate makers making chocolate the traditional way, unique shops, iconic heritage sites and a miner’s walk celebrating the valley’s mining heritage and industry.

Take a scenic chairlift ride at Fernie Alpine Resort for spectacular views of the surrounding mountains or enjoy hiking, biking and more. The more adventurous might like to experience a whitewater rafting excusion or a stand-up paddle tour. Summer or winter, Fernie is a true family destination.
